Your Newborn Session

Thank you for booking your little one’s newborn session with Baby Bear Photography! All the relevant information that you need to know for your session will be here, including what to bring and how to prepare.

The Session

Your session will last between 2-4 hours. I do not rush my sessions and I give plenty of time towards feeding and soothing your little one. An average session lasts around 2.5 hours but please be aware we might go over.

When you arrive for your session, if you could please bring your nappy bag, plenty of milk (if you are not breast feeding) and a pacifier or soother, if your little one uses one. We will take regular breaks to change, feed and soothe. I have my own props and outfits, but you are more than welcome to bring any keepsakes or outfits that you would like to use in your pictures.

It may get quite warm in the room during the session, which is normal for a newborn session. Please dress lightly so that you stay comfortable throughout the session.

My studio is set up in my home, so it is an informal and cosy environment! It is a pint-sized studio for pint-sized models, so I can only allow 2 adults to attend the session. My studio is set upstairs, so please let me know if this may be a problem before paying your deposit.

Set Ups

A newborn session has about 2-3 set ups with family shots as another. If you could kindly have a look at my Facebook page and the newborn gallery and give me a list, or screen shots, of the types of set ups you would like me to use. This will give me an idea of the kind of shots you prefer. If you could send me around 5-7 set ups, in order of your favourites first so that we can work out way down the list and see how much we can do.

You can either message your list or screen shots to me via Whats App or iMessage on 07915 660 948, via Facebook inbox or e-mail them to me at

Please be aware that not all set ups/shots/poses are guaranteed as all babies are different. If your little one is sleepy and happy during the session, we will be able to get through the list. There might be the chance where we cannot use certain set ups for safety reasons if the little one is awake or if your little one is not happy doing a certain pose; in this situation, I tend to use my discretion and use props and set ups that I think would suit the situation.

Please have a look here for images of set ups and props. You can also have a look on my Facebook page for more set ups.

Family Pictures

Family pictures are included in your session and I always encourage these! As a mum, I know how easy it is to be behind the camera rather than in front and I have missed many opportunities to be in pictures with my little one. These are moments that you will cherish in the future and memories that your little one will always look at when they are older.

For family pictures, I use either a dark, textured background or a light, creamy one. If you could let me know which one you would prefer. Please click on the images below for examples.

For a darker background, please could you and your family member please wear plain, black tops/shirts/dresses/t-shirts/etc, preferably without any logos or bright patterns. If you do not have black, then I recommend greys and browns, with bright colours and patterns avoided. For a lighter background, neutral colours are best, which can be any colour of your choice. If you are unable to find the recommended colours or clothing, please do not worry! You are more than welcome to wear what you would like to. This is your session and your memories, so please feel free to dress as you would prefer to šŸ™‚

Sibling shots are also included in your session. In regards to siblings, I always recommend that they are brought in at the end of the session for their images. As the room can get quite warm and sessions can be quite long, it is in the best interest for your newborn, your little ones and the session to have them come after we have done the hard bits šŸ™‚

If you could kindly dress your little ones in either the recommended colours above for your desired background or in something that you would prefer them to wear.

Pets are more than welcome to attend the session as they are also family! Similar with siblings, I advise that pets attend the session at the end for their own comfort. Pets are only allowed to attend if they are fully trained and well behaved in new environments. I love animals, so I will probably steal a cuddle or two!

If you have any more questions, please do not hesitate to ask! I am very understanding, especially with newborn sessions as I understand what it is like to be a new mum, so please feel free to ask me anything you like.
