Capturing your newborn’s first moments is the most beautiful way to treasure your memories. I can get quite booked up and last minute sessions may not be available, so I always advise mummies to book as soon as they know their due date. We will book you a provisional date for your session and then change it according to when you deliver.
The ideal time to capture those moments are within the first 6-10 days of when your cub is born. Babies are ever so sleepy and oh so flexible during that time that you can get a variety of poses and pictures whilst they sleep. But newborn photography can be done up to the age of 9 weeks, which would include different kinds of poses. I always try my best to work with what we can.
A typical newborn session can last between 2-4 hours. This is quite normal and a lot of the time goes towards soothing your baby, including feeding and any nappy changes. I try my best to make sure that we do not rush any sessions and I always work at the pace of the newborn and mum. Both of you being comfortable is the most important thing! I am also a firm believer in getting parents to get in front of the camera too as these moments are the ones that your little one will look back on.
When you arrive at your newborn shoot, all you will need to bring with you are nappies, cream, wipes/wool, a dummy (if you prefer) and plenty of milk (if not breast feeding). I always take regular breaks and give plenty of time to feed. If you have any keepsakes you would like to bring with you, please do so and I will use them in the shoot.
The studio can get quite warm as newborns cannot regulate their body heat. This is normal and I always advise parents to dress lightly so that they stay comfortable.
A normal newborn session has about 2-3 different set ups, which include different poses and angles. If I am lucky (which I am most of the time) and your little one is super sleepy, I get away with a lot more! If there are any shots you would like me to try or set-ups that you prefer, please let me know prior to your session so that I can have it ready and we can give it a go!
