Cake smashes are all the craze right now, and I’m not surprised. They are fun, messy and a unique experience for both babies and parents. It’s one of the best ways to celebrate the first year of your cherub’s life and it is absolutely hilarious!
A cake smash is when you dress your little one up (optional), give them a big cake, sit back and watch them dig in! The best thing is that your little one will have their own reaction. Some babies poke the cake about a bit before digging in, whereas others dive straight in and smash it up! A license to go wild and get as dirty as possible? Of course they’d love it!
Upon your booking, I will discuss what kind of set up or theme you would like and I can try and work with your ideas. If you’re not sure, please don’t worry. We can go through some examples together to see what catches your eye. You can also have an outdoor cake smash (weather permitting), which are quite popular in the spring and summer time.
Not everyone is fond of cake so I also offer alternative sessions to a cake smash, such as a portrait shoot, a Fruit Smash (fruit provided) or a Paint Splash (canvas and paint included). If you would prefer one of these, or even another alternative idea, please let me know as I am always up for trying new things.
The session begins with a few portrait pictures with the use of a couple of props and some family pictures (parents and siblings). We won’t aim for too many of these as we don’t want little one getting too tired before the main event. Once those are over, I take shots of the set up, your little one getting ready for the cake smash and the actual event itself.
Your cake smash session will last between 60-90 minutes, up until your little one is done. You will need to provide the cake; please let me know if you would like the name of some local bakers, or you are also more than welcome to buy cake from any shop, it is entirely up to you. You will also need to bring an outfit for the cake smash and one for your family pictures, a towel and wipes to clean up your little one and a set of spare, clean clothes.
Please make sure that they have had their nap and meal before you bring them to their session; we will plan the time of the shoot around this. Please bring plenty of water/milk/juice, along with any snacks as your little one will get thirsty and peckish during the session.
Parents beware! There is a 99% change that you will get very dirty, too!
